Why Starting To Veil My Head
On one cold winter day in 2013 I had a scarf over my head on my way to school. As I was praying on the bus ride he spoke to me and said I would like for you to cover your head at mass. So then I started looking for a veil and could not find any. So I’ve kept looking and found some I liked but they were either out of stock or out of my price range.
While still in R.C.I.A. and researching the church I stumbled upon some articles about women covering their heads while in mass and how its slowly coming back in to practice. From there I prayed about it to ask GOD if he wanted me to cover my head while in mass. On one cold winter day in 2013 I had a scarf over my head on my way to school.
As I was praying on the bus ride he spoke to me and said I would like for you to cover your head at mass. So then I started looking for a veil online and could not find any. So I kept looking and found some I liked but they were either out of stock or out of my price range. So after three and a half years of looking I clicked on this website that I’ve seen in my google searches before and never clicked on it.
It was a website called Veils by Lily. I clicked it and was honestly in awe of how many different types and styles of veils. It took me a couple of days of going though the website and finding the right one for me and how long I should get so it doesn’t catch in my tires of my wheelchair. On November 26th 2016 I bought my first veil and on December 8th 2016 it came in the mail.
My first veil was what they call a starter veil it’s a small semi circle with ties on either side. It ties underneath your hair at the base of your neck. I knew that the ties were going to eventually drive me crazy. So I shortened them and sewed an inch of the tie Left on the under side that was closest to my ears. On December 24th Christmas Eve I officially started to veil my head at mass and while praying.
I admit it was a bit scary going in to church for the first time with the veil on my head. After a few times wearing the veil I was comfortable and I had to remind my self that it was in reverence of GOD. At the age of 21 knowing that this was pleasing to GOD made my heart grow in more love for Jesus.
Thank you for your perspective on this. I think veiling is interesting and it's cool that it's coming back in style :).
